Dervish in Progress comes to Hannover with Ziya Azazi from 14 to 16 May 2027. The Pentecost weekend will bring together the DIP family that has grown over the years, while opening a new space for people from Hannover and the surrounding area who would like to experience whirling locally.
A reunion and a new beginning
After almost eight years and around 40 DIP events – including workshops, retreats and masterclasses – Sabine Hohnfeld is finally inviting her teacher Ziya Azazi to Hannover. The invitation is for the friends from the DIP family whom she has met over the years, as well as anyone curious to discover why whirling has inspired her for so long.
The weekend begins on Friday afternoon with a COME TOGETHER: a chance to meet, reunite and celebrate before the workshop starts that evening. On Whit Monday, Sabine will organise a shared closing gathering for everyone who would like to stay in Hannover.
Why Dervish in Progress
For more than 25 years, Ziya Azazi has explored whirling as a contemporary practice for body, mind and spirit. Dervish in Progress approaches whirling neither as an exotic form nor as a mere technique. It is a learnable methodology that connects movement, perception and meaning.
The DIP Equation provides orientation. Steering the Wheels makes physical, emotional and mental processes perceptible. Body Analysis creates a safe, healthy and individual foundation. Together, these tools help participants understand and embody whirling, and integrate it into their own lives.
As the body moves around its centre, feelings, thoughts and visions can leave their familiar order. Whirling then becomes a practice of transformation: a way to experience change physically, rather than only think about it.
The workshop
The workshop welcomes people from Hannover and the surrounding area who would like to learn the practice of whirling, as well as participants with DIP experience. The shared practice opens access to centre, movement and perception, revealing how whirling can become a living practice in everyday life.
